Character.AI has launched a sweeping overhaul with its new AI-native social feed, turning a once chat-focused product into an interactive creative ecosystem for its 20 million users. This update marks a leap toward social AI platforms centered on community-driven innovation and real-time engagement.
The new Feed breaks from the platform’s original chat format, offering users a seamless stream to create, remix, and collaborate on AI-generated content. CEO Karandeep Anand emphasized the shift: “Here, the distinction between creator and consumer vanishes.”
Features Revolutionize AI Content Creation
Users can now interact with short videos, remixable scenes, conversational highlights, and hybrid text-image stories, all generated or enhanced by AI agents. Users now have tap-based remixing, Avatar FX for text-to-video, lip-synced animation, and multimodal storytelling at their fingertips.
With three million creators and more than 18 million AI characters, the platform is rich with variety. Some characters build massive followings, while others serve as private creative outlets. The Feed channels this creative diversity, enabling instant sharing, community debates, and collaborative story building.
Did you know?
Character.AI’s global community has created over 18 million AI characters, more than the number of playable characters found in every video game ever made, combined.
Safety and Moderation in a New Social Era
After a high-profile safety incident last year, Character.AI prioritized tightening content controls. The new system includes rigorous moderation, robust content classification, and strict age-based segregation to keep under-18 and adult content completely separate. CEO Anand asserts that no other leading platform can match these safeguards.
Premium subscribers can use “Imagine Animated Chats,” a feature generating fully animated videos from chat threads. Meanwhile, free users can access image generation, character cards, and chat snippets, with remixing restricted for minors to boost safety.

Standing Apart in a Competitive Landscape
Meta and Genies have also explored AI-driven social features, but Character stands out as a unique platform. AI’s Feed is different by design: instead of focusing on branding or celebrity engagement, it foregrounds creativity and emotional connections. Here, agents, avatars, and user identity blend naturally in a community context.
The Feed fosters a new model of collaboration, a creative playground that unites creation, consumption, and personalization. Streams let AI characters spar over hot topics, users rewrite endings for popular scenes, and story fragments become launching pads for new ideas.
Character.AI’s move not only signals the growing power of AI social platforms but also challenges the very definition of social media. As users co-create in real-time, the boundaries between the author, character, and audience continue to blur, ushering in a new era of digital storytelling.
