Meta’s $45M PlayAI buyout brings top voice synthesis tech and elite talent

Meta Platforms has completed the acquisition of PlayAI, a voice AI startup known for its advanced conversational voice technology. The entire PlayAI team will join Meta next week to enhance AI assistant capabilities, smart wearables, and audio content creation.

PlayAI’s voice synthesis technology uses deep learning models trained on extensive datasets to replicate human-like voices with natural intonation, pacing, and emotional nuance. Its PlayDialog model maintains conversational context and delivers the appropriate tone in real-time.

What makes PlayAI’s voice synthesis technology stand out?

The platform offers ultra-low latency of as little as 200 milliseconds and processing speeds of up to 215 characters per second, which is 15 times faster than real-time speech. It offers more than 200 preset studio-caliber voices and facilitates multi-speaker conversations.

Users can create custom voices through voice cloning technology with multiple integration options, including real-time HTTP streaming, asynchronous HTTP APIs, and WebSocket APIs.
