OpenAI Aims to Redefine ChatGPT as a Comprehensive AI Assistant

A leaked internal strategy document from OpenAI, uncovered during Google's antitrust trial with the Department of Justice, reveals ambitious plans to transform ChatGPT into a "super assistant" by mid-2025.

Titled "ChatGPT: H1 2025 Strategy," the document outlines a vision for ChatGPT to serve as a deeply personalized interface to the internet, evolving far beyond its current role as a conversational chatbot.

A New Era for ChatGPT

The strategy document, dated late 2024, describes ChatGPT’s evolution into an AI that "knows you, understands what you care about, and helps with any task a smart, trustworthy, emotionally intelligent person with a computer could do."

By using advanced models like 02 and 03, along with tools for interacting with computers and handling different types of information, OpenAI wants ChatGPT to be able to do many different tasks.

These include everyday activities like answering questions, managing calendars, planning vacations, and sending emails, as well as specialized tasks like coding. The company sees ChatGPT as a constant companion, assisting users at home with recipes, on the go with navigation, at work with meeting notes, or during reflective moments on solo walks.

This vision aligns with recent remarks from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who noted that younger users increasingly view ChatGPT as a "life advisor." Hardware integration is a key component, with plans to make ChatGPT seamlessly accessible across websites, phones, and desktop apps.

Industry discussions highlight growing excitement about AI’s potential to integrate into daily life, with some analysts predicting that by 2026, over 60% of smartphone users will rely on AI assistants for routine tasks.
