Truecaller will officially discontinue its call-recording feature on iPhones after September 30, 2025. The announcement gives users just under two months to save and secure any audio files before the function becomes unavailable on iOS.
The change affects all iOS users, regardless of subscription tier. It follows the introduction of Apple’s own native call recording and transcription in iOS 18.1, which streamlined the feature as a built-in capability for supported devices and regions.
Why Truecaller Is Ending iPhone Call Recording
Truecaller first brought call recording to iOS in June 2023, using a technical workaround that connected calls to a dedicated recording line. This approach added cost and complexity, as iOS does not allow apps to natively record conversations.
The situation changed when Apple unveiled native call recording and AI-powered transcription, making Truecaller’s solution redundant for many users. With Apple’s direct support, privacy is improved and the process is easier, since calls no longer need to be merged to a separate line.

Truecaller urges existing users to download, email, or move their saved call recordings to iCloud before September 30. Detailed instructions are available in the app’s help section and on the company’s support portal.
Unlike Android, where third-party apps retain broader recording permissions, iOS restricts the function to only a handful of approved solutions. Apple’s built-in tool stores encrypted recordings in the Notes app, with both parties notified when recording is active.
Truecaller’s Core Focus Shifts
With the recording function ending, Truecaller’s iOS users will continue to access live caller ID, advanced spam blocking, and additional premium features. The company says this shift allows it to dedicate resources to its core strengths, namely, fighting spam and fraud, which have become increasingly sophisticated.
Financially, iOS still delivers almost half of Truecaller’s subscription revenue, underscoring the challenge and importance of adapting to Apple’s evolving privacy landscape.
