Poland’s decision to modernize its 48 F-16C/D Block 52+ fighters to the F-16V Block 72 standard marks one of the most advanced fighter upgrade programs in Europe. Upgrades also boost protection against emerging electronic threats, a key factor in a region with increasing air defense sophistication.

Expanded weapons compatibility and endurance

The jets will be compatible with advanced NATO munitions such as the AIM-9X, AIM-120D AMRAAM, AGM-158 JASSM, and GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II. This flexibility allows Poland to engage a broader range of targets with greater accuracy.

The F-16V Block 72, equipped with improvements that enable 12,000 flight hours and optional fuel tanks designed to fit its shape, can fly longer distances without losing performance, which is crucial for both deterring threats and carrying out missions.
